When The Force Isn't With You

Featured Indie Publishers

As I was building this site it occurred to me that you might want to see examples of other publishers who have successfully made their dreams come true and read a little about what worked, what didn't work and a few words of encouragement.  Each one of these people has overcome great obstacles to becoming successful.  I have asked them to share their experiences by asking them these 7 questions:

  1. Summary of the book
  2. Author Bio
  3. Story about the story, why you wrote the story and some interesting highlights about the process
  4. Why you choose to go “indie”, (1,000 reject letters, etc.)
  5. Biggest mistake(s) you made along the way
  6. Best thing(s) that happened
  7. Word of encouragement to other upcoming “indie’s”

Please visit their stories for some additional insights.

"See what they have done about it today!"

Each of the Authors below had a story that yearned to be told.  Against all odds each of them chose to publish their story.  When you wonder if you're story will ever make it into print and ever be shared with the world, check out their stories and be inspired and encouraged.  Click on the book or the title to go to their own "Featured" page.  The best way to support your local author is to buy their books.

When you become an indie publisher, please let me know and I will be honored to add your story.

And, just for fun I added a section for each of my books at the end.

The Body Love Manual - Elizabeth "Lily" Hills

In the Body Love Manual Lily offers you the keys to achieving your natural and healthiest weight without dieting or denying yourself any of your favorite foods! The answer lies in connecting with the most intelligent instrument on the planet…your body.

The Big Bang: Notes From Looking Within by Jason Matthews

I met Jason through the NCPA - Northern California Publishers Association (great resource for indies).  I thought there might be a chance for some collaborative work between his project Vote4MyStory and mine The Write Cause.  As it turns out ... there might be a whole lot more synergy than we thought!

Great book - a must read!

Making Purpose Work by Franchee Harmon

I met Franchee at the 2006 LA Times Festival of books.

She gave me one of the best quotes of my life.

"I was successful at a job I hated.

Imagine how successful I can be doing something I love."

The Zabbit by Jim Walkow

Jim was another person I met because of the 2006 LA Times Festival of Books.  Only our meeting was quiet by accident.  But then again I no longer believe in accidents.  There is more than chance or fate at work here, there is magic within.

The Death of Milly Mahoney by Susanne Severeid

Susanne found me through my association with Frank Weimann of the Literary Group in New York.  She called to find out about their agency and the rest, as "they" say is history.

Da Flying Hawaiian and Da Mongoose by Wehilani Koki

Wehilani "Curtis" Koki, "Da Flying Hawaiian" and Aunt Peggy, "Da Mongoose" are two of the most wonderful and gracious people you could ever meet.  We discovered them quiet by chance in the King Kamehameha Hotel in Kona.  You can read more about our how we met in my blog.

A Wealth of Family by Thomas Brooks

Thomas came to me through his association with Franchee Harmon.  It's an honor to have him as the first of this extended family.  This is a perfect example of how, as "indie" publishers, building a network is a crucial aspect of achieving our dream.

The Chronicles of Adrian Smith: The Audit Report by Richard Neumann

This is the first book I ever published and the first in the series of Adrian Smith books.  It is the story of a love that spans a century and crosses 100 light years of space.  It is also a powerful story of how you can begin by sitting in a carport in a thunder storm in front of a blank computer screen and watch a story come to life.

Charlie's Treasures by Richard Neumann

This book is truly an inspired work.  Even now when I go back and read it I can't believe it was me who wrote those words.  In life, many "things" have value, but only the people we meet and the impact they will have upon our life have an everlasting value.  This is something we often times forget in our busy lives.  Many thanks to Dian deWolf for her amazing artwork and Dean Morrissey for his mentoring and encouragement.

When The Force Isn't With You by Richard Neumann

What do you do after 30 years of failed attempts at getting a job at Lucasfilm?  First, you allow the wisdom of one very special stone and 120,000 cows teach you what life is really about.  Second, you write your adventure into a wandering narrative.
